Up until now I have been trying to learn how to play 3-finger bluegrass banjo, but I am fascinated by the clawhammer style and would like to learn more about playing in that style. I have watched some of the instructional materials mentioned in other posts (e.g. Rocket Science Banjo), and tried to begin to play a basic clawhammer motion. I can follow along with the beginning stoke hitting the first string with my index finger. Most of the time if I try to progress to hitting the second string with my index finger I can hit the string fairly cleanly. However, I am finding it extremely difficult to cleanly hit the third or fourth string with my index finger no matter how slowly I play. While I know that most of the solution lies in repetition and practice, I just wondered if any one has any tips on how to best cleanly strike the interior strings when playing clawhammer style. Thanks in advance!
