I finally found someone who sells Chris Sands' nylon strings. That, in itself, wasn't easy for me to do. Before I order some, I'd like to know some opinions on what I should consider. I play clawhammer and finger picking, at least I try. I've tried nylon strings for clawhammer, love the tone, but they don't have enough rigidity (?) for my liking. But I've used the LaBellas and GHS mostly .For finger picking, I also don't want to rip my nails to shreds.
Would Chris Sands "heavy" be appropriate? What about the stress on the neck, would the tension be too much? Lastly, are these strings "low pitch" strings, like the Nylgut Minstrels? I'd like to have a more conventional sound, rather than the D and E tuning a la Minstrels.
I'd really like to hear some opinions, because I've never played Sands strings before, and at $8 a shot, I'd like to go in with realistic expectations.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
