(You can always tell when I'm working hard and getting frustrated by my bho posts:)
I struggling with my right hand. I have a tendency to whack down on the string rather than get there and THEN puthrough it, a la Dan Gellert or Ken Perlman. I can slow it down to a 3 part strike, but I can't speed it up to a fluid motion in a graceful way. Today I realized why: I don't know WHY I want that stroke. I mean, I can listen to Dan and say "I like that sound," but I can't hear/feel why that movement gets me there, so I can't dial it in.
This is probably an impossible question, but why move that way? How does that style of strike get a good sound, and what is that sound? Know what I'm asking? I'm just so frustrated with this dang right hand, and going to a teacherlocally will get me trained in *their* stroke, which won't solve my problem unless it happens to be *that* stroke. Which it *should* be, right?
