Sandy Boys, coarse part

Most of the Sandy Boys I've heard (and played) has a sort of lift at the end of the middle of the coarse part. Sort of like a foray into the IV chord at the "do get along, do." But when I played with another group, they just made it sort of hang, like if you were singing "do get along, do get along." I quickly shifted, since you do as the group does. Asking a player about it afterward, she said (about my way) that it sounded more like June Apple at that part. Which it sort of does, but I don't see that as a drawback.

But my question is this. Which is more common? I know the lift is older tradition, but is the other way how a lot of people are doing it now?
