It's been a good 20 years since I have played much and decided to put forth some effort into picking it up again. I can get along a bit with the clawhammer but after reading some instructional material I realized I was taught differently then what most people recommend. I was taught to pluck up with my index finger (not down), strum with the middle finger and use the thumb traditionally. What I've come to learn is it seems like everyone instructs that it's all down strokes regardless of which finger you are using.
Old habits die hard and I find it difficult change that plucking up with the index to a down stroke. I'm wondering if that is why I'm not that great at drop thumbing because I've got two motions going on. Appreciate any thoughts.
