Should we focus mainly on economy of hand movement? I'm asking, because, after all these years, I still don't feel comfortable with drop thumbing. I always kind of swat at the string with my thumb and pray for the best result. Now, I've noticed that there seems to be a considerable amount of movement in my right hand, and I wonder if that may be a part of my problem. Back when I took bluegrass lessons, the instructor used to be adamant against excessive hand movement, he was really an "economy of motion" fanatic. His claim was that excessive hand movement produced inaccuracy -- exactly the problem I seem to have in clawhammer. But in CH, isn't the hand supposed to move around quite a bit? Anyway, if any of you have that problem, especially with dropping the thumb, I'd like suggestions on how to improve right hand accuracy.
