String Material Choices

OK Another newbie question.

I have some experiences with the two, Nylon-gut and steel. BUT wanted to know what you-All thought about the subject......which I'm fairly sure has been discussed here.

(if there is a search option on this forum please let me know as I did not see one)

As a beginner there are things I appreciate about both. The nylon is nice as it is a bit easier on my fingers and more "quiet" for learning and not driving the other inhabitants in my house crazy.

On the other side are the steel strings, inspire me to play more, sound really cool ( especially to a woodwind player so used to only one note at a time) and the brightness tend to demand more accuracy at the frets.

Well there is more I could say, but I suppose I wondered which are best to learn on.

Thanks Everybody.
