I have been trying to learn bluegrass style banjo for a year, on and off. I am finding my ineptness frustrating. I am a very slow learner and I just can get my fingers to do what I want them to do.
I don’t want to abandon the 3-finger style altogether, but it seems like I might have more luck with clawhammer.
Is clawhammer easier to learn? Will I be able to progress faster actually playing a tune?
I am not trying to do this professionally or anything. I just enjoy bluegrass music and the sound of the banjo.
I have a book on clawhammer banjo but I don’t understand having to change the key (capo). Maybe I misunderstand this part of the book. Do I need a capo?
