It is my impression that people avoid or at least, shy away from drop thumbing. Why is that? Perhaps it is because I spent several years playing three-finger style, but I find nothing challenging about drop thumbing. I find that tablature that is written to avoid drop thumbing tends to be boring to play. It is so much more 'fun' for the hand to move the thumb around a bit rather than always lands on the 5th string. Is this just my 'beginner' clawhammer impression, or does it tend to run true?
