This topic has probably been covered over and over so forgive me for raising it again. Can some one explain why the middle finger is used in old time frailing?
I have thought about it and think that maybe it is because you can lock it in place with your other fingers so not to flick at the strings.
I can use you my middle finger but it doesn't seem to be connected to my brain as much as my 1st finger. The notes aren't as loud, clear and crisp as when I use my 1st. I wanted to copy the methods of the old style/ old time players who seem to favour the middle digit but as I said my brain seems to be happier with my Ist. Will it make a difference if I start out with my !st finger or, as a complete beginner should I persevere with my middle until my brain accepts it and I get better dexterity and crisper, louder sound.
