A friend of mine has been playing old time banjo for a couple of years now. we attended a contest this past fall(banjo/fiddle) and has been introduced to a few different circles of musicians, and is currently part of an organized group. All is well except one thing, which has been bugging me since then. my friend told me that the prevailing attitude of the fiddle players is that the banjo player is like a dog on a leash! Ilove old time music and my wife and I play this style often, although I do not mingle in such circles. It seems unfair to bring in a new player and fill their mind with such nonsense. Has anyone had the same experience with this type of attitude? Or is my friend hanging with the wrong crowd?
