Tonight I went to my first jam session since I took up CH banjo. It was a lot of fun and I learned two things that will help me. One, I found that I had been practicing far too fast, thinking I would have to keep up with the others. Group music sounds faster than it really is. So, slow down and increase speed gradually. And, two, I found that it is easier to work out an acceptable version of a song while others have the lead. The problem I had to get past was thinking that in order to take the lead you must have professionally produced CH product.
There is one other thing but it may be just my way of thinking. I know that there is a place for single note brush CH, but the place for it is not early on in the learning process.
