I’m going away for a week by plane, and I ‘d really like to take a 5 string open back banjo along. I have one that’s not very valuable which will do.
I am aware that Congress instructed the Department of Transportation to write a directive requiring airlines to store instruments in overhead bins etc. within two years of its request. As I understand it, the deadline has passed and there is no such regulation. The Department of Transportation hasn’t even begun to do so. There is no mechanism by which congress can compel a department to act.
On the other hand, flight attendants seem aware of this congressional initiative and, when I asked on my last flight about taking a banjo along, the flight attendant said she would just put it up front in a closet.
So I would like to know if anyone has tried to bring a banjo on board a plane and what happened.
Thanks, Richard
