After decades as a 3-finger picker, I am pretty new to clawhammer style. I've got to the point where I can make music, completely self-taught with the aid of a couple of beginner videos. But I have something in my playing that I feel I need to fix, and I need some advice. It's a bit difficult to describe but I'll try.
Notes played on the 1st string sound fine. Clear and clean. But as I hit notes on the 2nd and 3rd strings, the tone deteriorates and starts sounding spread out, kind of hollow with increased levels of overtones and less of the primary note. And often less volume. Does that make sense?
If you use good headphones, I think you can hear what I'm talking about on this tune: https://soundcloud.com/robert-palomo/osage-catnap - you'll hear it most in the B part of the tune on the lower notes.
I'm guessing I've got the attack technique right up on the 1st, but I'm not attacking the lower strings right. I know in 3-finger there's a real art to tone production. I'd really appreciate any tips, links to videos, etc.
