Ok all you experts out there- I need some advice. I decided I want to play clawhammer. I play by ear and pick things up easily, but how do you know when to use drop thumb if you are just listening to a song? Does it matter where and when? I'm actually more comfortable using my thumb, but I don't want to "over thumb it." Are there rules like you can't use your thumb twice in a row, only on certain beats ect? Just trying to avoid bad habits because once I start doing something one way, I'm going like that to my grave lol. And advice or wisdom imparted would be greatly appreciated.
