I had a chance to jam with a few friends for the first time last night. I was a great experience. They were guitar and mandolin players and really seemed to enjoy having a banjo in the mix. I think that they enjoyed having someone pick the melody. There were lots of songs though that I did not know. They had guitar tab and I tried to follow along the best I could. First off I know now I need to get a few more chords into my repertoire. But even for songs where I knew the chords I had a hard time. I was using bum-ditty switching between the third and fourth string occasionally using a hammer on to add a little style. The guitar tab didn't have measures and I just couldn't get the chord change timing. Often the chord change was on the second or third word of the line. In that case do I do a single bum ditty then change chords? Do I assume its four measures per line and just try to fit everything in?
Thanks for the help and Happy Father's day to all you pops out there,
Luke
