I wanted to let all the northern California clawhammer players know that Mark Johnson, the recipient of the 2012 Steve Martin Award for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, is coming to California as part of this year's California Banjo Extravaganza. Also featured will be Tony Furtado and Bill Evans along with a fantastic backing band of West Coast All-Stars (John Reischman, mandolin; Chad Manning, fiddle; Sharon Gilchrist, bass & mandolin; Jim Nunally, guitar).
We're playing four shows in Grass Valley, Winters (Sacramento area), Berkeley and Felton (Santa Cruz area) but I wanted specifically let you know that Mark will be offering instruction at our Banjo Mini-Camp on Saturday, November 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley. Mark will teach introductory and advanced clawhammer/clawgrass sessions and if you're interested in trying out bluegrass technique, I'll be offering an introductory bluegrass session as well. Only $70 for the entire afternoon!
