I recently converted my Epiphone to semi-fretless using a brass plate the same height as frets. I'm beginning to think that the action isn't high enough. I come from an electric guitar background, where there is no such thing as too low as long as there is no buzz- but I've noticed that I've lost a lot of volume on my pull-offs. I pull the string slightly down and give it a bit of a pop when I pull off, but the sound just isn't there. I'm thinking maybe since the plate artificially lowered the action, the bit of bite that my finger lost due to the string not digging into my finger as much is costing me in terms of volume- a bit of it also has to do with me using my nails now and not the meat of my fingers.
I know the short answer to my problem is more practice, but would I be better off (action wise) just pulling all of the frets and filling them?
