set up question for aEAC#E

I have  nice fretless vintage banjo which is currently strung with the medium classic nylgut set.   It is 261/2" scale and has violin tuners.   when i tuned it to aEAC#E I felt the tension was too high.  I am thinking of re-stringing to the light set of nylgut strings.   i wanted to use this banjo for round peak practice.   i am using the book by Brad Leftwich.   Will the lighter set work?
