Hi all! I've just started playing the banjo (Deering Goodtime Openback) here recently (less than a month) and have been really enjoying the BHO and all it has to offer. I've been searching the site constantly for answers to my questions so as not to ask the same rookie questions that I'm sure have been asked many times. However, there is something I haven't seen (or haven't searched for correctly) and it's concerning the placement of my right hand as I'm striking the strings.
I've noticed in many videos online that some play closer to the bridge, some in the middle of the head, and some on the neck (not even on the head at all!) Is there a method to the madness or is it pure comfort and natural angle of each person's arm? Thanks in advance!
