I like Old Time and even listening to gourd banjo music sometimes. I think it is a great thing to be able hear the past like that. But I also think the banjo and in particular the clawhammer style can deliver a lot more than where it seems to be pigeon-holed. I've heard little in the way of dynamics on the banjo except from Rob Stenson and really like his work even though it is little more than 15 minutes worth at this point. I would like hear people who take existing music and then push the envelop like Rob does with playing style and dynamics and also people who might write their own music, maybe not even in the Old Time genre for the banjo. I know there's Irish and Jazz banjo but I'm talking about 5 string clawhammer. Are there more performers like that? Any names to go explore?
