I've always stuffed the heads of my banjos with some foam up at the neck join end. I think, to my ear, it gives the driest tone without any (or many) overtones at all.
Today I wondered about stuffing in other areas such as behind the bridge, under the bridge, etc. and wondered the effect, if any, on clucking and other CH techniques. I gave it a go and thought I got a "better" sounding cluck with stuffing behind the bridge. Also seemed to get a better fourth string tone as well. Still didn't like the added overtones though, generally speaking.
Just wondering other CH player's opinions on where they stuff their heads.
(And in trying to keep this technique-ish related so it doesn't get moved to the set up forum) I seemed to have to change my angle of attack just a little on my frailing nail.
