Hello,
just bought a fretless (already have a fretless gourd, long time fretless bass player too).
But since I'm playing again the fretless with banjo, 3 obvious ideas are growing in my mind :
a) clawhammer is obviously for fretless, as old time black banjo players(get so much pleasure with a fretless, so pity so few recordings of black banjo players)
b) two fingers style is obvisouly for fretted banjo, old time style, and is truely beautiful (I'm just decided to start learning 2 finger style with my fretted banjo)
c) scruggs style is unfortunatly hiding the true beautiful banjo.
Just remind myself starting playing the banjo 6/7 years ago because I started to love so much rural / mountain / folk music. I wished to play the banjo ; I heard 2 finger style or clawhammer tune, can't remind well, but definitively not scruggs. But unfortunatly the landscape was full of scruggs style explanations... So i started scruggs, with a weird feeling. 1 year after I switched to clawhammer. The true banjo is hidden over the scruggs style.
just a word. hope my english not too bad.
