Key of A – aEAC#E

This is a FUN tune! Yes, you can almost picture that “little Dutch girl” dancing in those old wooden clogs while you bounce along with this one. Dan's band, The Boiled Buzzards played this one early on and you can find it on their Fine Dining album, which had Dan on clawhammer banjo, David Rice playing harmonica, Annie Trimble – guitar and Ruth Kass playing bass. Dan also has a great live version from the Wandering Ramblers from the Beaver Valley Festival Dance tent as well as a clean fiddle reference from Lynn “Chirps” Smith (of Volo Bogtrotters fame) on his home recordings volume 2. There are more out there so find as many as you can to hear this great tune.

Dan included it in his book Old Time Favorites for Clawhammer Banjo (Melbay 30224 and its fiddle companion 30225). In the Clawhammer version you will find 2 lines of tab (basic and advanced) as well as a standard notation line. The fiddle version has 2 lines of standard notation (basic and advanced) as well as a line of mandolin/fiddle tablature for those not yet reading the dots.

As in past weeks, Dan just plays the tune and breaks down sections on the fly.

You can purchase the video lesson (for unlimited streaming and download) here on the Banjo Hangout for $6.

Dan and I would love to hear any feedback you have on these videos, so feel free to post or email us. Our goal here is provide a steady, affordable way for people to learn a new clawhammer tune weekly (or as often as they'd like).

It would be great to hear some of your versions so far so post them here for all to hear!
