Luthier Recommendation?

Greetings Folks-

I'm new to banjo playing and looking for a quality independant luthier made open back instrument for clawhammer / old time styles.  I'm a left handed player so my choice of production made instruments is pretty limited.  I'm a long time guitar player and know the difference a high quality instrument can make in terms of tone and playability.  A fairly traditionally constructed banjo with a frailing scoop in the $1000 - $1500 USD range would be ideal.  

Any luthier recommendations or general buying advice would be appreciated.
