Lately I've been especially focused on claw hammer and fiddle tunes. I have a new love for old time music.Jamming in an old time setting is the path I'd like to take with my banjo.
Recently I went to see an old time group in my area who plays weekly at the pub. The banjo player was great. However even though the group played all fiddle tunes the banjo player picked a bluegrass style banjo with finger picks and I did not see him change tuning all night.
My questions are:
How common is this in old tune settings?
Is it a formidable aproach to use standard g tuning and take every tune from there regaurdless of key?
