I just watched this video -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhDq2ZNbCy0 -- and I'm wondering what is the advantage, if any, of up picking the first note of the bum ditty vs down picking. I assume there's a reason most clawhammer players don't do this. I'm also guessing there's a reason Pete Seeger did it.
