I've been playing with a hammer-on exercise/tune I created where I use the hammer-on as part of the rhythm, sort of like the pull-off used in round peak. I do the hammer-on following most bums of the bum ditty (completing my 1st yr on banjo so still in bum ditty land;-). The hammer-on can be same string or alternate string and am doing it with a chord progression over sawmill that I'm also learning about at the same time. There are some places where I don't do the hammer-on to add some "color."
I don't know why I went down this path other than it sounded interesting. It seems limited in what can be done with it but am curious if if this constant hammer-on is used in anyway in a particular style or if this is just normal banjo playing.
I attached an excerpt of the lesson I'm working on.
