Minstrel/Prust banjo beginner questions

I just received my Prust tackhead banjo a few days ago.  It is fretless with a 13' calfskin pot and Nylgut strings. The action at the 12th "fret" is a little bit under 3/8's of an inch.  I'm using the lowest of 3 bridges. I'm new to this style of banjo.  I have a few questions.

1. Anyone find the action on these a bit high?  Are other fretless minstrel type banjos all like this? Should I try another bridge?

2. I'm having a bit of trouble with playing on the neck with the 13' pot.  I've had no experience with either, and I'm not sure what the standard position to hold it is if their is one.  I've tried it with the pot sitting on the couch next to me hugging my leg.  I've tried it with it in my lap at more of a horizontal angle, and more of a vertical one.  I have very long arms.  Maybe I just need more experience playing on the neck, I can play on the pot just fine. I'm just afraid of practicing my mistakes.

3. If anyone has any technique tips, minstrel song suggestions, calfskin knowledge, resources, or any other interesting info that pertains to this type of banjo I'm all ears. Thanks.
