So, I was explaining Clawhammer the other day, and I got to the Bum Ditty part of the explanation and when I said that we strike the string with the "Back" of our fingernail, I stopped and for the first time, I thought about that explanation....am I really strinking the string with the back of my fingernail? I don't even know if the fingernail has a back...there's the underside that gets dirty when I don't wash very well...there's the top part that some girls paint...why the BACK of the fingernail????? ...then she asked "why is it called clawhammer?"...I gave the usual explanation, that it resembles a clawhammer....then I googled photos of clawhammers. They look nothing like my hand position....so I guess next time someone asks....with a downward motion, I strike the string with my FINGERNAIL while I am FRAILING...or maybe I'm way off base.
