I'm quite jealous of those folks I've met who are able to just whip something out on the banjo and then tell me they never learned to read tablature or music and have done everything 'by ear.'
My question to those of you who fit this description.....Do you guys practice scales and learn chord positions etc, or has it really all been by hunt-and-peck and just knowing what sounds good together? I am really just stumped in trying to figure out how you guys can wrap your head around this if you don't have at least some degree of music theory or chord positions as a foundation to build from.
