I've been wondering what it is that when a tune is referred to specifically as "a banjo tune" that distinguishes it as such. I have a feeling this may have a definitive answer, but I don't have the knowledge or experience yet to know. For example: On the album High Atmosphere, Gaither Carlton states of the tune Rambling Hobo that "(It's) always been a banjo tune." It seems to me that some of these "banjo" tunes are in unusual tunings? I ask because I've been messing with a few lately, and have been really having fun with them...; the aforementioned Rambling Hobo, and Half Shaved played on that same album by Wade Ward. Also on this album is Apple Blossom, which also seems to be what I guess might be considered a banjo tune as well? The tunes such as these that I'm familiar with seem to be more 'ditties' really. Perhaps these 'banjo' tunes are difficult to accompany with a different instrument?
