Watching this somewhat embarrassing video, I realized I hum the tune as I play it. Of course, I don’t have to hum it aloud but it made me realize that I can only play as well as I hum and my humming is not very good. I don’t think I can hum up to speed on most of the songs I play so how will I ever play up to speed. Also I favor strong melody since the melody line is easier to hum. If I can’t hum a tune, I can’t play it and some tunes seem like they will be impossible for me to hum.
I also find it hard to sing and play because I’m too focused on the melody. I can’t seem to play chords because the melody is too distracting.
Any comments or suggestions?
