I'm looking for ways to improve my left-hand chops and feel like I'm kind of stuck in a rut. I'm not very good at practicing without structure, so I'm considering taking some bluegrass banjo or guitar (either classical or steel string) lessons because from what I know, those seem to demand more from the left-hand than traditional clawhammer pieces.
I'm interested if anyone else has thoughts or experiences about left-hand techniques from other fretted instruments transferring to their clawhammer playing. Also, if anybody has some exercises that helped them improve their left-hand it would be great if you could share them.

Notes: Been playing for 3+ years; I also play with a rock band that plays in many different keys, so I'm very interested in playing out of closed chord shapes up and down the neck.
