I have a couple of banjos that are setup with Nylgut strings. Those strings are quite fat, so I have the spacing on them setup wider than normal (50mm at the bridge). This means that when I drop thumb, the string that is above the one I am hitting with my thumb lands directly on the spot where my thumb nail meets skin---and it gets quite irritating. I guess that is a sensitive spot, easy to irritate the skin there.
Anybody run into this, and how did you get past it?
