Tone Woods and Tone Rings

Hi Everyone,

I am looking at buying a new banjo and am interested in tone. I know how much the tone wood on a guitar affects the sound, but I also know there is so much more that seems to affect the sound of a banjo..  I play Hog guitars and love the woody punchyness of mahogany.

I am looking at getting a Pisgah banjo and they make their pots and necks in walnut, cherry, or maple.

Their tone rings are either Persimmon, rolled brass or a Dobson ring.

I can listen to sound files all day, but that isn't really that much of a help since there are so many things that affect the recording. Sadly, Southern California doesn't have a lot of music store that sell open back banjos, so I am going to have to pick on an educated guess.

Here is where the education comes in...

How would you describe the sound of the three tone woods and tone rings in question?
