Likely this has been asked a 1000 times, but I'm looking to buy a banjo from an individual maker or dealer and would like to know what is generally considered to be the "best" sound around. Money is less an issue than playability/sound. I'm a fiddle player (old time) and have played banjo over the years and want to play more, however the instruments I have are older ones without geared tuners, etc. and are hard to play day to day. I would like an open back instrumennt with skin head and maybe gut strings (although being able to also use metal would be a plus), and a cut away fret board close to the pot,. Advice? Thanks.
