ho hum.... been practicing this "moderate paced" tune for weeks- Handsome Cabin boy, so I decided to do it infront of the members of our jam yesterday & "kapow"... I did it 100 times faster (slight exaggeration) than it is meant to be - despite me even saying I was going to take it slowly the moment my first note was played I was out the starting gates like a racehorse. note to self: Forum name is Dancing Horse, not Racehorse.
Now each time I go to the jam, I try to play an individual tune just to force me out of my comfort zone as well as playing all the jam tunes. My individual tunes have improved since doing the solos (used to shake terribly once...) but like yesterday the heebie jeebies visit in one form or another and i stuff it up. I even kept telling myself to slow it down, but hands were refusing to listen to my brain & vice-versa, just had to wait till then end and then crawl under my rock.
I know, practice practice practice, but there must be something I can try to remember when doing it infront of a group of people.
What do you do to keep your brain from going out of control like mine does.
cheers - Christine
