I am curious about the vintage banjos from pre-WWll that have been tried for Clawhammer. Some are iconic for Clawhammer. I'd be surprised if every single model, from every mfg ever known, has not at least been tried. Most banjos from that period would have been 4 string, so it would have been necessary to replace the neck with a 5 string. There were some really interesting banjos made during that time. I get the impression there were enthusiastic individuals liked to do some experimenting with different designs. Some banjos were basic and inexpensive. And some, were remarkable, innovative, and mfg'd with the highest degree of workmanship.
I'd be curious to know what has been the result of trying these vintage banjo's. Which banjo's worked well, and maybe which banjo's did not work so well.
