I developed what I didn't realize was a bad habit of playing with the "2 o'clock" part of my index finger when I struck the string. I went to a workshop and the well-known and respected instructor/performer told me to strike with the "10 o'clock" part of my finger and that this was essential for me to improve. It took me a long time and a lot of frustration to finally get so I play with the 10 o'clock part of the nail. He actually made a dot with a marker on my nail showing me where I should be contacting with the string. Then, a few months later, I went to another workshop with a different well-known instructor and performer and was told that I should be playing with the "2 o'clock" part of my nail and that this lead to better tone. What the heck? Personal preference or a big deal? Forget about it and play where it feels best or strive for the correct way-whichever that is? thanks guys. w
