Hey guys, Is there a trick to improvising fiddle tunes in Double D tuning, or does it just come with time/hard work.
I've been playing clawhammer banjo for just under 3 years and I can hold my own and improvise at jams, especially in G tuning (A). My training, and backup is predominately chord based and that works for the most part. Other songs I 've learnt and can play through or adapt to different versions of the tunes very well.
When it comes to improvising fiddle tunes in Double D, I am completely lost. I know a few tunes which I have learnt and can play them with other people, but when it comes to improvising a tune someone else brings to the table I'm lost. Any pointers? or do other people have the same problem?
I'm thinking about going to Clifftop next year, and I plan to regularly attend a local weekly jam, more often than I have been in preparation. Just looking for a little advice from the forums, Thanks!
