Hello to Banjo Hangout!
I've been looking at your site for the past month while I have started to learn to play the banjo. As it is the most recent instrument on a rather large list(started 10 years ago) I've managed to pick it up rather fast. I currently am playing mostly in a clawhammer/frailing style but also occasionally get into some fingerstyle like I would on guitar. I would like to learn both a two and three finger, as well as thumb lead styles, does anyone know any good material to try this out on and some videos? I have a Folksong, and a Blues fake book from Hal Leonard, along with the 6th edition Real book so I have MOST songs I want to try, and can find others in the rest of my small music library, just curious on where to start! I have looked over Mike Iversons page(as most of you suggested!) and have found his material to be amazing, but am looking to do my own arrangements so wondering what songs lay out well on the instrument.
Also the banjo I'm playing on is a Goodtime open back parlor. I really love the banjo but am curious about trying out nylon strings and possibly tuning to F or E standard. Anyone have some recorded videos of the open back Goodtime parlor using steel and a few different nylon or nylon-like strings? Any other concerns playing on nylon with a banjo? I have had a classical guitar for years and it doesn't bother me any and I really like the warmer sound and am just curious if I could warm up my banjo a bit and get that dull chunky sound out of it.
I know that there are many posts similiar to this one throughout the forums archive but I want to ask questions and discuss options with people without stealing someone else's thread!
